Why We Get Acne, Pimples and Blemishes
by Lim Zheng Yang
It's always good to know what the causes of acne are before we embark on our acne treatment fight.
In fact, it's simply a matter of avoiding some of these factors where possible!
After conducting some research, I've found out some of the factors that sends zits popping out all over our face:
This skin problem is most likely hereditary. This means that if your parents, or anyone before you in the family has it, chances are, you might suffer from this skin disorder as well.
Most of us have heard of this one before: hormones, hormones, hormones! Yes, as we grow out of our adolescence and into puberty, androgens in our body is activated and stimulates our oil glands to produce excessive oils. This causes our pores to clog, and results in, you guessed it, acne and even blackheads.
While stress isn't one of the direct causes of acne, it does worsen any skin condition you might already be suffering from, thereby possibly affecting your acne problem.
And although there hasn't been any scientific evidence that links what you eat to the occurrence of acne, our body does generally respond positively to a good diet and a healthy lifestyle.
This next factor might be easily overlooked by many. That's excessively washing our face, thinking that we are keeping it clean.
While the intention is good, it can have disastrous outcomes. You see, our face maintains a natural layer of oil to keep it moist, and protect our skin from the environment.
But when we interfere with this "balance" by washing too frequently, our skin responds by producing even more oil onto our face's surface.
This not only clogs pores that eventually lead to acne, but also damages our skin's natural functions.
Using a gentle cleanser just once in the morning and once before you go to bed will suffice.
When we unknowingly apply some cosmetics that contain too much oils or are too greasy, we suffocate our skin and again, clog the pores.
As a result, our skin can't breathe, and the clogged pores causes acne.
There are certain medications, that when taken, causes acne as a side effect. Always check with your doctor thoroughly so that you know what to expect, and can even take the necessary precautions where possible.
Now that you've learnt about these main causes of acne, just be sure not to commit the same mistakes if it's applicable, and in general, have a good skin care regime.
